WrenchDay Payment Processing Fee Terms

Fee schedule for online invoice payments: Stripe processing fees, the 1.5% WrenchDay platform fee, pass-through/surcharge options, refunds, and shop compliance responsibilities.

1. Scope

These terms apply to online payments that vehicle owners make on invoices generated in WrenchDay and processed through the shop's connected Stripe account (Stripe Connect). They supplement the WrenchDay Terms of Service and the Billing, Cancellation, and Refund Policy.

These terms do not apply to payments a shop collects outside of WrenchDay, such as cash, checks, or a card terminal not connected to the platform.

2. Fee schedule

Each online invoice payment carries two components: (a) Stripe payment-processing fees, currently 2.9% + $0.30 per standard US card transaction, set and collected by Stripe under Stripe's own agreements; and (b) a WrenchDay platform transaction fee of 1.5% of the total transaction amount, collected automatically as a Stripe application fee at the time of payment.

The combined processing cost disclosed to shops and, where passed through, to vehicle owners, is currently 4.4% + $0.30 per transaction. Stripe may change its fees under its agreements; non-standard cards, international cards, or alternative payment methods may carry different Stripe rates.

WrenchDay may change the platform transaction fee prospectively with reasonable prior notice, subject to applicable law and any written commitment (such as a founding-shop agreement).

3. Collection mechanics

The platform fee is collected through Stripe's application-fee mechanism on the PaymentIntent created for each invoice. The fee is deducted from the transaction before funds settle to the shop's Stripe balance; shops do not receive a separate invoice for platform transaction fees.

Each PaymentIntent records the invoice amount, any customer-paid processing fee, and the platform fee in its metadata so shops can reconcile payouts against invoices.

4. Fee pass-through option

Shops may choose in Settings whether processing costs are (a) included in listed prices, in which case the vehicle owner pays the invoice total as listed and the shop absorbs the combined processing cost from its payout, or (b) added at checkout as a separately disclosed card-processing fee, in which case the checkout total is increased so the shop receives the full invoice amount.

When the fee is added at checkout, the payment page discloses the fee as a separate line item, states the combined rate and its components (Stripe and WrenchDay), and informs the vehicle owner that the fee can be avoided by paying at the shop directly.

5. Shop compliance responsibilities

Card surcharges and convenience fees are regulated by state law and card-network rules, and are prohibited or capped in some jurisdictions. The shop is solely responsible for determining whether passing processing fees to customers is lawful in its jurisdiction, for any required registrations or notices to card networks, and for any signage or point-of-sale disclosures required by law.

WrenchDay provides the pass-through option as a configuration tool only and does not provide legal advice. The shop agrees to indemnify and hold harmless WrenchDay from claims, fines, penalties, or disputes arising from the shop's decision to pass fees to customers or from inadequate disclosures.

6. Refunds, disputes, and chargebacks

If a payment is refunded, Stripe's handling of its processing fees is governed by Stripe's terms; Stripe processing fees are generally not returned on refunds. WrenchDay may, at its discretion, return the platform fee on full refunds processed through the platform, but is not obligated to do so unless required by law.

Chargebacks, disputes, and associated processor fees are between the shop, its customer, and Stripe. WrenchDay is not a party to the underlying repair transaction and is not responsible for dispute outcomes.

7. Taxes

The shop is responsible for determining how sales tax applies to its invoices, including whether any customer-paid processing fee is taxable in its jurisdiction. Platform transaction fees charged by WrenchDay are exclusive of any taxes that may apply to WrenchDay's services.
